Gurmukhi punjabi is the dominant language of Sikhs, and its population is approximately 90 million. Throughout the world, more than 100 million people speak Punjabi. In the 12th century, the Punjabi language emerged as an independent language. Guru Nanak was the 1st guru of Sikhs and the founder of the Sikh cult. He gave a new impetus to Punjabi.
The Gurmukhi alphabet is obtained from the alphabet called “Landa” and was standardized during the 16th century by the second guru of Sikhs named Guru Angad Dev Ji. In addition to this, the fifth Guru Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji compiled Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Punjabi.
